“I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” This is the quote that Nathan Hale said on September 22, 1776. These were his last words be for he was hanged, people think that he was paraphrasing the word from Joseph Addison. To me these words mean that he would live another life for his country. He was known as America’s first spy. The british found out about him being a spy and they hanged him.

Help give your country the upper hand in a war. That was what Nathan Hale did. He use to be a spy for the colonists. One day the british caught him and was sentenced for a hanging. Right before he was hung by the british, he made a quote and that was “I only regret that I have but only life to lose for my country.” He was killed on September 22, 1776. He was only 21 years old, that means that he was born on June 6, 1775
For him to risk his life and know eventually he would be hung is a big responsibility. I wonder what his parents though. I would be devastated to know your son could have been hung on any day. He also faugh in the war under George Washington. He had 5 brothers and they were all in the war. So Nathan fought with his brothers to save his country. So he was a big help to put the colonists ahead in the war.

I regret losing my one chance to save my country."I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Nathan Hale, before being hanged by the British, September 22, 1776. These were his last words after being hanged. Nathan Hale was a martyr soldier. Martyr means somebody who died for their beliefs.

Nathan was hung for spying on the British troops in 1776. He deserved a heroes death instead of being hung. People said that Nathan Hale was Athletic, generous, and intelligent. He went down fighting but he did not deserve to have been hung. He was born in Coventry Conn. He died by not having a heroic death.

One quote can make a huge difference for the whole world. On September 22nd 1776 Nathan Hale was captured by the Continential Army. This was during the Revolutionary War. Nathan Hale was a spy at the time for the Patriots. After I researched the quote I came across a fact that I thought was very interesting.
Historians think that Nathan never said the “life” qoute. They think that he said something simmilar to the quote but he didn’t say it. I want to know why historians think this. To me this quote means love life while you have it and to take advantage of it.

Nathan Hale was hung on September 26th 1776 before he was hung by the British he said “ I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country”. This quote means something to me. It is pretty much saying that he loves his country so he would die for it. He loves it so much that he is willing to die many time for it.

Nathan Hale was a solider from the continental army during the revolutionary war. After Nathan dies on September 26th 1776 he was designated the state hero of Connecticut in 1985. He was a good man he loved and stood up for his country. He was willing to do anything for it. He even died for it.

Do what is right when you have the chance. As I read through this quote I thought about all my regrets that I have had through my life. I don’t think anyone when it is their time to leave this beautiful earth, wants to look back and think about all their regrets in the past. I could be something you wish you had done, or something you with you hadn’t. Something you wish you would have said, or someone you wish you would have given a a chance.
The writer or this quote was named Nathan Hale. He was born in Coventry Conn in 1755 after graduating Yale to become a school teacher. when he was about 19-18 he was made caption of the Conn regiment in 1776. He was caught spying on the British in New York 1776, that means he was only about 18-19 when he was hanged for espionage. He was writing a letter to a family member with this quote in it. I’m sure when you are young it is easy to think about all the thing you could have done, or not done, but not Nathan, He thought about the future. He is saying he wishes he could have had more lives to be able to fight for the right of the people and his country. I think this was a very wise thing to say for someone so young.

“ I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” These are the great words of Nathan Hale who was killed by the british for spying on them. I would never have enough bravery as those soldiers especially Nathan Hale. Out of all i would say he was one of the bravest. I only say that because he knew that if he was caught he would likely be sent to jail for the rest of his life or killed. It is very scary to think what those soldiers had to go through to get there independence.

Nathan Hale was Was a solider in the American Revolution. He was born in 1755 and hanged in 1776 by the british for spying on them. He was acting like a british solider to spy on the british and sending the information back to the patriots. Nathan Hale was the 6th of 12 children. In 1776 he volunteered to be a spy for the patriots on the british.

"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Nathan Hale, before being hanged by the British, September 22, 1776

In this quote I think nathan Hale was trying to say he was willing to die and sacrifice his only life for his country. He wishes he had more because he could fight for what he felt and believed in. Later he passed because he was hung by the british. I felt that he was a great role model to his peers and showing examples to not let anyone push your around and fight for your rights and what you believe in and even if it means putting your whole life on the line. I admire nathan after reading this quote and it inspires me to believe strongly and fight for my country.

These were the last words out of Nathan Hale’s mouth before being hung,"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." in September 22, 1776. What this quote means to me is that if you believe in it, then believe. Don’t let anyone tell you not to believe, believe what you believe. The reason why he was hung was because he spied on the British Troops movements during the Battle of Long Island in August and September 1776.

There is a 13 foot statue if Revolutionary War hear Nathan Hale stands tall in City Hall Park. He stands there because he was a hero to everyone in the war period. Hale has been considered an American hero.

Nathan Hale was a extremely dedicated Patriot. His quote, “I regret that I only have but one life to lose,” says a lot about his character. To me, it means that he wishes he could give more to this country. Because he was so dedicated, he says that, if he could, he would give more than one life to support his country. His sacrifice represents our country’s morals very well.
Not many people have the great character that Nathan did. Many would not even risk their lives like Nathan did. He was a great American Patriot. He brought a new way of looking at things. He made our country a stronger place.

The last words out of Nathan Hales mouth were “I only regret that I have only one life to give to my country.” Not everybody really gets what he is saying here. These words are not just the last words that he said but the most important words that he said. “This quote means that Nathan Hales was happy to die because he helped his country by going out to the british side and being a spy for the colonists” at the Age Of 11. He risked his life and ended up being hung by the british after being found. The British found and then hung him on September 22, 1776.
Some people may say that it is strange that the last words out of Nathan Hales mouth were that “He would like to have more lives so he can serve for the rebels,” (www.quotationbooks.com) and “Don’t understand why he was happy when he was saying this.”(www.quotationbooks.com) But I think I do, Nathan Hales was loyal to the Rebels and wanted to be a spy so he could serve for his country and was fine with fact that he could possibly die by doing this job. To me this is more than dedication but love for his people and his “Friends”. I don’t think I could never be this brave. He took leadership and helped fight for the country’s freedom as well as his own.
I am Happy that Nathan Hales did this as I am Proud that he did this and know that what he did most people wouldn’t do!

Do whats best for you and your surroundings. I think "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." means that he will do anything for his country as long as its right and fair. Nathan Hale lived from June 6, 1755 – September 22, 1776. He was a soldier for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He volunteered for an intelligence-gathering mission in New York City but was captured by the British and hung. "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Nathan Hale, before being hanged by the British, September 22, 1776. This quote may have other meaning but this says to me is that he cannot give more for his country. The man by the name of Nathan Hale was a spy, a spy to the patriots. Many people would give their lives for the fight they were fighting and the one thing this man wanted to do is to lose more for his country. Let me put this into perspective this man, this one man wanted to lose his life, the ability to live for the country that is what we will know these men by honorable brave men. What you want to take from this is what would you do? Would you die for your own freedom and hundreds of others safety and independence?

All people should fight for our country. When I read this quote, I thought about how some people take life for granite and how they regret things they have done in the past. Those people don’t care about what they did in their past, and how it can effect their future. Maybe some people don’t regret what they did in past. Maybe they said something great, or something they were happy they did. In this quote, it is saying that they missed out on an opportunity. They missed out on helping make the country a better place.

“I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” ~ Nathan Hale, before being hanged by the British, September 22,1776. Nathan Hale was an American-school teacher, spy, and Revolutionary War hero. He also said, “how beautiful is death when earned by virtue.” I think that this quote relates to the other one. They both say how that dying is fine when you are a good person. When you have gave up something to make something better. People should hear about this quote, and think about if there is something they can do to make the world a better place.

You only have one life. Nathan Hale had express that when he had said “I only regret that I have but only one life to lose for my country.” Nathan hale said that before getting hanged by the British, September 22, 1776. Those last words that Nathan had said before he had died mean a lot to everyone because he had meant that he shouldn’t have done what he did before getting hanged to cause his forces of death. Do you take these words that Nathan Hale had said before he got hanged series about your life?
I take these words series to me because he is saying the you only have one life and you need to take care of your self. Many people look down on Nathan Hale because their is a status of him located outside of the intelligence agency in Washington D.C. Nathan Hale was a solider in the American Revolution. He was born in 1755 and hanged in 1776 by the British for spying on them. He was acting like a British solider to spy on the British and sending the information back to the patriots. Live a dedicated life. Nathan Hale, an “American schoolteacher, spy, and Revolutionary War hero.” - www.quotecounterquote.com definitely lived a dedicated life. In fact, he was so extremely dedicated to America, that his last words before being hung by he British were “I only regret that I have but only one life to lose for my country.” - Nathan Hale, before being hung by the British, September 22, 1776. This quote only proves the point that Nathan Hale was truly a Revolutionary War hero. His mission was to spy on the British, and help the American Colonists to reclaim their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Hale was born on June 6,1775 in Coventry, Connecticut. “He was commissioned as First Lieutenant in the Seventh Connecticut regiment, and resigned his place as teacher.” He made a great, dedicated Lieutenant, and kept his men in order. Hale fought in many battles during his time in the Patriot Army, one of them being the Battle at Lexington and Concord. During this time, George Washington was the Commander in Chief for the Patriots side, and after the Battle of Lexington and Concord, Washington knew what was going on with the British side. As quoted once, “After the Battle of Lexington and Concord, Washington knew that their next attack would be at New York, so he sent his army there.” - www.connecticutstar.org. Among this army was spy, Nathan Hale. During this battle in New York, “Hale was taken to General Howe’s head-quarters, spent the night there and was hung the next morning, 9-22 after being accused of lighting the city on fire.” - www.connecticutstar.org. This was where Nathan Hale took his last breaths, and spoke the profound words that would later show our country the true meaning of dedication.

Enjoy the life you live. Nathan Hale was born on June 6, 1755. He was a teacher, a spy, and part of the Revolutionary War. He enrolled in the militia. I think this quote means I live the life you have because you only have one shot. He wanted to fight for American Independence.
Hale was captured by the British soldiers and admitted his role as a spy when incriminating documents were found in his possession. This quote were his last words. And meaningful ones to. The day after Hale was captured by the Britsh Soldiers He was hung. Dying on September 22,1776.

"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Nathan Hale said, before being hanged by the British, as the last words he said in September 22, 1776. Nathan Hale, a martyr soldier of the American Revolution, was born in Coventry, Conn., June 6, 1755. When but little more than twenty-one years old he was hanged, by order of General William Howe, as a spy, in the city of New York. At the great centennial celebration of the Revolution, and the part which the State of Connecticut bore in it, an immense assembly of the people of Connecticut.

So soon as the news of Lexington and Concord reached New London, a town-meeting was called. At this meeting, this young man, not yet of age, was one of the speakers. “Let us march immediately,” he said, “and never lay down our arms until we obtain our independence.” It is said that there is no other record so early as this in which the word “independence” was publicly spoken. It would seem as if the uncalculating courage of a boy of twenty were needed to break the spell which still gave dignity to colonial submission. I got my info form http://www.connecticutsar.org/patriots/hale_nathan.htm.

Nathan Hale, spy for the americans, patriot, spent his life wisely. Nathan hale was born june 6 1755 and was hung September 22 1776. He was a spy for the patriots and when the british found out, I think they were kinda mad. But today we remember his last words. “I only regret that I have but on life to lose for my country.” This quote means(in my mind) that you have one life to live, he lost his only for his country. I believe life is kinda like money, sometimes it can be beautiful and you have a lot of it, others you may have close to none, either way you must spend it wisely. You have one life, die for something thats worth it, like your free country.

When you are a true patriot, you must be willing to sacrifice. “But one life to lose” is part of a saying that Nathan Hale spoke the day of his death. He was talking about how he only has one life and he will lay down his life for his country that stands for freedom. Having to say those as his last words really shows how much of a patriot Nathan Hales was and how much he believed in it.
Nathan Hale was a captain in the continental army, which really shows me that he fought in the revolutionary period and fought against the British. 5 Of Nathan’s brothers fought against the British at Lexington and Concord. To me that makes a lot of sense because it explains where all of the patriotism comes from. Their whole family must have been patriots. Nathan was captured after he was disguised as a Dutch schoolmaster and got a lot of important British information. In the following week after he was captured he was hung by the British.

Do what you think is right even if it might be wrong! This is what Nathan Hale did. Nathan, an American schoolteacher, spied on the British troops movement during the battle of Long Island in the Revolutionary war. Nathan was caught while pretending to be a teacher while spying and he was hung on September 22, 1776. Nathan’s last words before he got killed were, “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

Since he said this quote as the last words before he died it means he thought it was really important for all Americans and everyone to hear. In this quote it by,”my country.” Nathan was referring to America even know it wasn't officially it’s own country yet. This quote means to me that if Nathan Hale had another chance to help America even if it meant he would die he would still do it. Nathan might of been trying to say something else, but this is just how I interpreted it. If you had another chance to do something important would you, even if it had horrible consequences?

Daring and not afraid! A victorious and beloved young man named Nathan Hale who volunteered to be a soldier during the revolutionary war after coming out of Yale . When he heard that General Washington needed a spy. He willingly said “I am ready to go. Send me.” As he volunteered to go behind British lines and spy on their every moves he was caught. The day after his arrest they hung him and as he looked at the soldiers in front of him his last words were “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

Willing and not afraid is what this quote is truly saying. How I interrupted it is he was not afraid to die for his country and that he was not ashamed of dying on September 22nd. In the quote where he said “regret” I believe what it mean’t was that he wished that he could still fight for his country. A very patriotic young man who was willing to die for his country, but not ready to lose his life. Because he wanted to see what America would turn out to be.

"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Nathan Hale, before being hanged by the British, September 22, 1776

This statement is touching not only because it is before being hung but just because the smallest words may mean the most. It sounds like Nathan Hale wishes that he could have another chance to die for his country for something that is worth dying for. Nathan Hale was born June, 6, 1755. At 22 years old Nathan Hale was hung by the order of General William Howe. He was hung for being a spy in the city of New York. Nathan Hale was a hero dying for something that he believed in so heavily and that is freedom. Nathan. I feel like Nathan was regretting that he got caught as anybody would but he wishes that he had another chance to do something great for his country to join freedom within the soles of the people of America. Nathan Hale was just a simple farmer before he was hung. But when he was hung he didn't die a farmer he died a hero of the United States of America. You only live once to live what you are made for.

Do everything the best you can because you might not have another chance. I think this is what Nathan Hale means when he said this quote. "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Even though he died trying, he still wanted to be able to do more than he did. We only have one life to live so make the best of it. Not everything we do, will give us more than one chance.

Hale volunteered to be a soldier when he heard General Washington needed a spy. He was saw in a tavern and recognized despite his disguise and pretending to be a patriot himself. Hale was then sentenced to death. He was hung on September 22, 1776. Right before being hung he said something close to the quote. People think these maybe weren't these the exact words he said. This quote must of been important since they were his last words before dying.

What do you think is right? Nathan Hale once said that “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” What does this mean? What it means is Nathan Hale always did the right thing, no matter the cost not even his own life. So for the right thing he became a spy, spying on the british. When the british found out he had been doing this. They had decided to hang him the next time that they saw him. Nathan Hale knowing the cost of being a spy would kill him one day he still did it.

Some people would say that Nathan Hale was a true patriot, and they were right. Willing to sacrifice so much for your country and for freedom. Is something a true patriot would do. Nathan Hale spook and believed like this till the day that the british hung him. And that was a sad day. Nathan Hale was a great caption of the continental army and for everybody to see him like that was truly sad. But everybody knew he died for the right thing and died for an amazing thing. That is why they called Nathan Hale a true patriot.

The words that powered the American Revolution came from the great leaders in Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, but there were also contributors among those people was Nathan Hale. Hale was born and raised in Connecticut, the sixth of ten surviving siblings.  He enrolled at Yale University and graduated at the age of 18.  After a short time working as a teacher, Hale joined a local militia organized in the fight for American independence from Great Britain.
While he was fighting for that militia he made a very famous quote. “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." To me that quote meant that he would rather have more then one life to die for his country while fighting. I’m pretty sure everybody would want more then one life but that is how it is. Maybe when we die we do go into an others life but we will never know.

You know that you are a dedicated soldier of the patriots when you are willing to sacrifice your life for the sake of others lives and freedom. The saying “But one life to lose” that Nathan Hale spoke the day he died. What he meant was how you can only live one time and he was going to spend his fighting for our countries freedom. Him saying that saying was just a symbol of how much of a patriot Nathan Hales was.
Nathan Hale was a captain in the continental army. He was a Vicious leader that didn’t give up without a fight. Nathan had 5 brothers that went to war against the British at the battles of Lexington and Concord. This tells that not only him but all of his brothers were fighting for what they believed in even though it may have been against the law. Nathan was captured after he made him self look like a british officer to get info about the british army. Nathan was hung the same week by the british. I think he was a dedicated man who didn’t give up ever and died doing what he believed in.

The statement is sad because it is before being hung but just because the smallest words may mean the most. "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Nathan Hale said, before being hanged by the British he said in September 22, 1776 right before he died.

“ I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country”. Nathan Hale, September 22, 1776. These were Nathan Hale’s final words before he was hung. Hale was known as the first american spy ever. He was very courageous and a great speaker in front of people. Even from a young age Hale was recognized because he spoke in town meetings even if he wasn’t yet of age.

Nathan contributed a lot to the colonists. He gave them vital information to give them the upper hand in battles. Hale was smart too, he attended Yale college. He was among 13 scholars out of the whole school. Nathan Hale believed that if you really believed in something, You should be willing to die for it.

You only live once spend it wisely. What I’m trying to say is if you believe in something go for it even if it takes your life a way. It will mean something to someone or a lot of people even. Who knows you might be the next American hero of Connecticut.Nathan Hale was a solider from the continental army during the revolutionary war. After Nathan dies on September 26th 1776 he was designated the state hero of Connecticut in 1985. He was a good man he loved and stood up for his country. He was willing to do anything for it. He even died for it.

I would die 1,000 times to have freedom! “I only regret that I have but one life to lose to my country.” Nathan Hale 1776. Nathan Hale was a brave patriot. He was spying on a British troop to learn their plans and secrets. The British troop decided to hang him. This quote were his last words. That’s why I believe he is a very brave man.
“but one life to lose” Is part of what he said in his quote. It proves to me that he would have died more than once, just for his freedom. T me this quote means there is no point to living if your not free. Sometimes it isn’t always what the main person contributes like George Washington, sometimes it’s the little things that count.

Nathan Hale was a patriot born in Coventry, Connecticut, on June 6th, 1755. He was a graduate from Yale College. Most people know him as a lieutenant in the Continental Army, but he actually began his life as a schoolteacher in 1773. It wasn’t long after the war had begun in 1775, when Hale took part in the Continental Army as a lieutenant. Shortly after, he put his life at risk by volunteering to become a spy.
This quote can be more well understood, when you know the background of why it was said. It was said to be spoken by Nathan Hale, in his last few words before he was executed for being caught as a spy. I think he was trying to express that he doesn’t believe that he had truly, completely failed his mission. It only mattered that he was willing to die for his country, to support it. That that commitment meant more than just quitting. He was also saying in a way, that if he had more lives, he would spend or lose them for the country, to fight for what he believed was right. There were no boundaries of what you could do in your power to fight for what you believed in.

Nathan was a patriot. He was born in Coventry, Connecticut on June 6th 1755. He joined with his five brothers to fight for independence. Nathan was also a school teacher and a spy for the patriots to see what the British were doing and what there plans were.
Nathan was a great man and was said to be the Revolutionary War hero according to legend. He fought all he could to get independence. You only live your life once so you might as well go on and live it. I think that is what Nathan was trying to say. Nathan only lived to be twenty-one and should have lived longer. He was a captain in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. He put his life at risk being in the army and he put his life at risk to volunteer to be a spy. "I only regret that I have but one live to lose for my country." I think he was trying to persuade the British not to hang him. These were Nathan's last words and they should have been the beginning to a free country. Nathan was the first American executed by the British in the War for Independence. I don't think anybody should get hanged for freedom. I don't even think people should get hanged at all. I think he is very brave for standing up fr what he believed in.

Sometimes your life is what you give for the freedom we have today. I believe that Nathon Hale believed this. Before he was hung he said something like this could you imagine only thinking of your country, that shows how strong he believed in his fellow man. Even after Samual Hale betraid him by reviling him on his last spy mission. He went on a spy mission and was captured.
After his death he was considered a hero to Connecticate. Also he made his famly proud. If he had not done that and got captured people would not have been as inspired for the war to come. Some things that seem worse happen for the better. If he had know he made this big of an impact he would have died 100 times.

You only live once, in in that short period on this universe, you must make a difference. You just can’t sit around and let the world wait on you. Everybody who fought in the war of 1776, new that they had a slim chance of coming out alive. Yet, they fought till’ their dyeing breath, so we could live in freedom. That is why our wold is so easy these days.
Nathan Hale did not give in. He did not tell the British were are troops were he simply stated his mind & sat there waiting to die. He was strong enough to know that this was the price he had to pay to be free, so his mother, wife, children and his country could be free. He knew that, and that is why we are free. It reminds me of another quote: Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.

Giving you one life to save trillions is worth everything. That’s exactly what Nathan Hale did in 1776 when he was hanged by the British. “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” ~ Nathan Hale, before he was hanged by the British, September 22, 1776. These were most likely Hale’s last words before he was hanged by his neck, with the rest of his body dangling below. The British soldier may have said, “Any last words, Hale?” as he was standing on his death platform before a mixed crowd of angry loyalists and mourning patriots.
All the soldiers of any war are at risk of dying. That’s a scary thought, but Nathan Hale’s quote is saying he wishes he had more lives to lose. The soldiers could outlive the war, or not. They don’t know when they go in, but they go anyway, for their country. They are willing to sacrifice themselves for other people’s freedom. If they don’t survive the war they won’t get to experience that freedom for themselves, but the satisfaction that others will is enough for them. I think that’s bravery on it’s own.

Nathan Hale is probably the most famous American martyr. He spied for the patriots, and was caught and hung for the crime, of what the British thought was, treason. 55. Liberty is to die for. This is what Nathan Hale was trying to say when he said “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country” on September 22, 1776 right before he got hanged for being a traitor by the British. Nathan Hale was a patriot, and a captain in the continental country. He was merely twenty-one years old when he was hanged.
When Nathan Hale was put into the continental army he was a spy. He spyed on the British while they controlled New York. He was a brave man to do so, he must have known he would get caught. Just a year after Lexington and Concord. These were the few words he said before being hung upon an apple-tree in Rutgers’ orchard by the British.

Just why was he being hung by the British. Besides being a colonist, there had to be a reason behind this. Well, there was. He had volunteered to cross the British lines and travel to Long Island. His mission was soon discovered and he was captured by the British.

He didn’t care if I died the very first step he took out onto the battlefield. He knew that he did the best thing his life could ever do. Everyone should live by this. Live by what your life is telling you what to do. This doesn't mean just go act all stupid and crazy but do what is rite. If taking the trash out because you know you have to, don’t sit on the couch and watch t.v and wait until your parents tell you to do something. God do it! It is common sense. “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country” Nathan Hale, said before being hung by the British, September 22nd, 1776.
Nathan Hale was a very noble man. If he said that his only regret in life was not having another one to lose for something he loved, he must have really loved America. It really means a lot to only have one regret in your life. I wonder if he meant that? If he really had only one regret his whole entire life? Most people have a lot more than just one regret in their life, whether it be something as small as cheating on a test, or as big as stealing something. It’s pretty major to say something like that.
I think it was unfair to hang Nathan Hale, or anyone really, during the Revolutionary War just because they weren’t on a certain side. Just because you believe in something, certainly doesn’t mean you should be punished by someone who doesn’t believe the same thing. Your belief is something that no one can take away from you. No one can tell you what you can and can’t believe. This applies to almost every historical event. The Holocaust, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, etc. It’s a very good thing to stand up for what you believe in.

Nathan Hale was a soldier for the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He volunteered for and intelligence-gathering mission in New York City. But was captures by the British and hanged. His last words were “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.”
He is saying that he is willing die for his country. But he is also saying that he needs more people who can die for there country along with him. He is also saying we only have one life and war has a large chance to take it away. He is also wishing that this was not his end ant that he could still do everything over.

Back in 1776, the world`s first American spy, Nathan Hale, had a mission to travel to New York where the British were. He got important information from the British, but in the end, sadly, he got kidnapped and eventually hanged. Before he died, though, he said an influential speech, or in this case, a sentence; “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” Very deep last words.

Basically, what this line means is that his only regret is that he only has one life to help his country. Once you die once, that`s it. You can`t do anything about it and the world. It`s important to live life to the fullest and do what you can before your eventual demise. You only have one chance. Overall, his death was not at all in vein. Hale gave the Patriots important information about the British plans.

Nathan Hales words are famous because he said them before he was hung. Before being hung and he said such powerful words. These words are the last words that he ever said. He was captured in the middle of a spy mission. I hope I say a famous quote someday.

"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." This quote was telling the british and the people of america that he did not care if he died for his country. Also I think that this inspired some americans to join the rebels. Another thing that this might have don is scar the british. He told them that he was not afraid to die fighting for his country.

Another think that he was trying to communicate was that other people should be willing to risk there life's for there country. Also they might be more motivated to join because of how faithful he was to his country. and thats what I think about Nathan Hales quote.

Sacrificing everything for freedom is a sacrifice well made. “I only regret that I but one life to lose for my country,” Nathan Hale said right before he was hanged by the British on September 22, 1776. Hale was the first ever American spy, but he was caught by the British, which lead him to his death. Before he was a spy, Nathan was a teacher, and he had 5 brothers. His final words were thought to be inspired by Joseph Addison's celebrated tragedy. Nathan Hale is now an American hero for his brave actions.
Now down to the meaning of this quote- sacrificing everything for freedom is a sacrifice well made. To die serving your country is an honor to many people. Fighting for freedom is very important to all Americans. Sacrificing everything for freedom is a sacrifice well made.

I only have one life for liberty. “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country,” a quote said by a brave spy. Nathan Hale only was a continental army solider in the revolutionary war. He was considered americas first spy. He was a very brave man. He went into the enemies radar and collected information for our country. Even though they caught him, he stayed true to his country and died a nobel man. His last words left a lasting impression.

You only have one life. So you should not waste.
So you should not waste it. If you do something
like go to jail. And you go in there for life. That is your only life
and you can not get it back. So your life is over if
you have to stay in jail the rest of your life.

You only have one life. So you should make it count.
You should make every day the best day ever. And it is your
choice to make that one day the best day. Or you can
make it the worst day. So it is up to. You only have
one life you should not waste it.

"I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." What i think Nathan Hale meant by saying this quote is, he's sorry for his country that he dosnt have more than one life, to fight for his country and protect it. He only has one and he lost it trying to protect us. Not only is it upsetting he was hung by the British but at least he died proud, giving all he had for us to fight for freedom.
The quote i showed to you earlier in this text were Nathan Hales last words before being hung by the British on September 22, 1776. But do you know why he was hung? Nathan Hale, was a American school teacher, his job was to spy on the British troops movement during the battle of Long Island in the Revolutionary war. Nathan was then hanged for his such doing as i said on September 22, 1776.

I would loose as many lives as I could to get independence for my country. “ I only regret that I have but one life to loose for my country” this quote was said by Nathan Hale before he got hanged by the British.
Nathan was actually spying on the British when they caught him and decided to hang him for his crime. I would loose as many lives as I could to get independence for my country.

He spied on the British while they controlled New York. He was a brave man to do so, he must have known he would get caught. He got three statues made of pure bronze in his honor, A bronze statue of Hale is in the State Capitol. Another bronze statue of him has been erected in the front of the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford. Another is in the city of New York. Liberty is to die for.

Nathan Hale was a young patriot spy. The British hanged him at the young age of 21. He sacrificed his life so that we can be free today. Many know his last words, “I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” This could mean if he had the ability too die for his country again he would do it.
This country would be a lot different if it wasn’t for the patriots like Nathan Hale. Everyone sacrificed a lot back then. Losing loved ones in battle. Nathan Hale seemed as if he lived his life to the best. And he was happy to die for his country.

If I could do it all over again for my country I would.  I'm sure this is something Nathan Hale had thought about as he was waiting to be hung in the
center of town.  As an officer in General George Washington's Army during the Revolutionary War, Hale volunteered to go behind the British lines and spy.
Hale knew that if he were caught he would be hung.
On September 22, 1776 Nathan Hale, then a 21 year old, was marched through town and hanged.  According to eyewitnesses he said some brave words before he was put to death.  "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country," is what some say they thought they heard Hale say.  No one is certain if those were his exact words, but close to what he may have said.  For me that means that in life sometimes there are consequences, but if you believe what you are doing is for the right reason then you will not regret it and you will face the punishment if needed.  And no matter what the consequence you would do the action again because you believe in what you did.
I think Nathan Hale was proud of what he had done for his country and he would have done it over and over again if he could have.  I don't think he regretted spying, I think he regretted being caught.  Hale wanted to do more for his country and he was sad because he knew this was the end for him. Sometimes people say if they could do something over they wouldn't, I think Hale would have died again and again for his country because he believed in the fight.

With out risk there would be no prize. Are words of inspiration from Nathan Hale. "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." said Nathan Hale before being hanged by the British, September 22,1776. He was hanged for being a spy! I thought that that was cool that he was a spy. He was spying on the British for General George Washington. I bet that those words helped enrage several patriots to fight.

He had volunteered to be a spy. That amazed me because that would have been so dangerous. But when he was spying on the british he was caught and hanged. He was sentenced to execution by General William Howe. But the vary last words he said was, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." Then he was hanged.

I think that Hale was trying to tell the British that his cause still had great merit and that someone like himself--intelligent, educated and decent--was willing to die for it "without regret". It should be put in prospective that the "cause" was really in bad shape in September, 1776. The much-defeated and demoralized rebel army had been chased to upper Manhattan, ripe for total destruction by the vastly superior British forces. Its soldiers were deserting in droves now--sometimes whole companies at once--and the end seemed only a matter of time. But Hale told the British straight--standing by the gallows--that his "country" was still worthwhile and worth dying for. The enemy was duly impressed, seeing that most of them still considered the rebels to be a dirty rag-tag bunch of contentious rabble.

On September 22nd, 1776, Patriot Nathan Hale was hung for being a rebel spy. "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." The last words before being hung by the british. He was about 31 years of age when he dressed up like a Dutch schoolmaster and tried to get the plans of the Brits. He fought under General George Washington in New York with his 5 brothers.
Washington asked for a volunteer to go on a spy mission to “the other side” Hale stepped forward. On September 10th he started his mission, for a week he gathered information about the British. He was caught going back to the “Rebels side.” Its said that a cousin of Hale betrayed him and told General Howe about the papers he had that proved he was a spy. He was sentence to be hung the next day.

Would you sacrifice your life for someone or for something such as your country? Im afraid I can’t answer that question myself, it would be a last minute decision for me and I would have to think about it. Well Nathan Hale didn’t have to think about it cause he knew that he would die for his families freedom but more important his countries freedom. He was not afraid nor discouraged before he was hanged. He was only disappointed because he only had one life to live and he was about to die and he knew that he could do more with that one life. If he could have another life he would live it to the fullest to his country. “I only regret that I have but one life to loose for my country.” Nathan Hale.

Revolutionary War hero who said "I only regret that I have but one life..."

A captain in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, Nathan Hale famously announced "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country" just before being executed by the British for being a spy. Hale grew up in Connecticut and graduated from Yale College in 1773. He began a career as a teacher, but when the War for Independence heated up in 1775, Hale accepted a commission as a lieutenant in the Continental Army. He served at Boston and then New York, where he volunteered to go behind British lines to gather intelligence. He was captured by the British on 21 September 1776 and immediately admitted that he was spying for General George Washington. British general William Howe ordered the execution of Hale, who was hanged the next day. Hale's famous quote comes by way of a memoir by his friend, William Hull, who reported the famous last words as told to him by a British engineer who spoke with Hale, Captain John Montresor. Although Hale's spying mission ended in failure, his display of patriotism made him a hero among the colonists fighting for independence.
